Do you know about Smart Home Technology?
Smart home technology covers a lot, but its easy to see why people are overwhelmed by it, says Paul Ward, Managing Director of AMAROK SYSTEMS.
Essentially smart home technology allows you to control your home while you’re at work, shopping or even on holiday. It gives you the ability to plan ahead, save time and be one step ahead, of the fast-paced world we live in.
How does it work?
Smart Home Technology (SHT) works through your broadband service – you can activate lights, control your heating, view CCTV and access your audio visual equipment.
How is smart home technology changing?
Initially Smart Home Technology was expensive, involved lots of wires and was primarily used by early adopters. Today it’s in most homes in some form, for example with Alexa, Apple Homekit or Google Assistant or anything else controlled by voice prompts. Broadband speed checks are a quick way to make an early assessment of upload and download speeds that can affect connectivity for streaming services such as Netflix, Prime Video, Spotify.
How long have you been doing this and what interested you?
I have been in the technology industry for 26 years, specialising in satellite and aerials, both residential and commercial. It’s a family theme – my father was an electrician – so I had an early interest in all things electrical. Now is an exciting time, as people are time poor and want convenience and introducing SHT into homes can be a good solution. Most people know a little bit about it but it’s constantly changing.
How much does it cost?
Its relatively inexpensive. I usually start with TVs then help to support the customer through the SHT journey by adding CCTV and smart home automation, for example opening and closing curtains, turning on and off lights, setting and deactivating alarm systems, monitoring door bell activity and opening and closing garage doors.
